About Me
PhD Candidate – Information Engineering
Pietro Calabrese is a PhD Candidate in Information Engineering and a member of the Machine Learning and Process Intelligence (MLPI) research group at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Pisa.
He began his academic path by earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Pisa, with a thesis focused on the Design of a Web Application for Geospatial Data using Java EE and PostGIS. Subsequently, he completed his Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering at the same university, with a thesis concentrated on the analysis of counterfactual-based feature importance measures.
His primary research interests are concentrated in the field of Explainable AI (XAI), aiming to improve the fidelity and comprehensibility of Machine Learning models.
In parallel, he has translated this theoretical expertise into high-level practical experience, working as an IT Specialist and Database Administrator. He is proficient in implementing scalable Cloud Computing architectures and developing optimized software solutions.
His engineering trajectory is defined by the ability to apply AI to solve complex challenges, ranging from Anomaly Detection systems in industrial environments and the optimized management of IoT systems for energy efficiency, to the classification of medical images.
